

Week 2: Letting it all explode in a riot of colour and pattern, inspired by the work of artists including Eduard Vuillard, Pierre Bonnard, Matisse, Rose Hilton, and Cecily Brown. Week 1: Painting only in black and white, to limit the colour and explore simply the qualities of paint. Starting with mark-making each week, painting directly onto canvas, students have very quickly overcome any fear of the blank canvas. We have the lovely Laura O'Rourke modelling for us (Laura works a lot with Draw Brighton studio, and has recently been modelling at the National Gallery), her fabulous character and costume inspiring the students to create some very exciting and unusual paintings in response. 'Following on from a very successful first year, the Simply Paint course has got off to a flying start, with many of last year's students continuing, as well as a few new intakes. The course is now in full flow and here Katie provides a snapshot of the creative process and some wonderful images that reflect the students' impressive progress to date:
